This piece is inspired by the work Slow Swirl at the Edge of the Sea by Mark Rothko (1903-1970). This painting of 1944 precedes Rothko's style of abstract expressionism, but we can already see important elements of his artistic production: movement, density, the cutting of space. A lyricism and tenderness emerge from this painting. The piece was premiered by the Trio Empreinte n the Bateau Daphné moored at the Quai de Montebello on the banks of the Seine in Paris in October 2015.

The piece was written for the French saxophonist Stéphane Sordet and is a tribute to the Hungarian composer György Kurtág.
