Deep Down is part of a series of short pieces for brass and piano. In this series, Robert Lemay tried to find a fusion between the piano and the brass rather than a juxtaposition. In this piece, we can speak of a true tuba and piano duet instead of a work for tuba with piano accompaniment. The two instruments become complementary to each other.
