Sylvain Kassap STRAWMILL - Printed Version
Printed Version
For bass clarinet & symphonic bass drum
Duration 7'
Commissioned by the ensemble PTYX Graves and impacts...
Verticality (the wide and virtuoso range of the bass clarinet lines) and horizontality (the instrumental uniqueness of the bass drum which almost creates a drone)...
Shared pulse(s), incessant dialogue, constant play on dynamics... The bass clarinet grinds obsessive phrases, the bass drum fills in glittering rhythms... StrawMill is the little sister of Aléas, a previous piece for bass clarinet in which the clarinetist used a pedal bass drum.
StrawMill, composed for Antoine Moulin (bass clarinet) & Yu-Hsuan Paï (bass drum), was premiered on July 20, 2019 in St Pierre des Corps (37) during a concert of the Ptyx ensemble.
